Intermediate Sports, Fitness and Coaching

Is the Course for me?

The qualifications are specifically targeted at level 2 learners who require stretch and challenge and they support progression to further education in sports and study at a higher level or to further training.

What is involved?

Learners will develop sport sector specific knowledge, understanding and skills together with underpinning transferable skills. Lessons range from practical, theory, peer assessment, group and individual assessment which support assignment needed to pass this qualification at a Merit level minimal.

Work Experience opportunity
As part of the programme you will conduct a two week work placement in a Sport or Fitness environment. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting. Assignments will also be completed in relation to your work placement.

Volunteer Hours
You will have the opportunity to complete 30 hours working with the college sport enrichment team in supporting sport events, weekly sport and exercise enrichment sessions and supporting activities in the fitness suite.

Enrichment Activities
A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are sport activities, workshops, outings and debates. There is also the opportunity to request other enrichment activities that you have an interest in.

i - Learning Sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for independent study. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research to assist learning.

Curriculum Tutorials
Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course. Support tutorials are at flexible times to meet your needs. This could occur during the daytime and evenings.


Progression to a range of level 3 qualifications within the sector or related areas.

Course Requirements

  • Vocational Level 1 in Sports at a Merit pass grade.
  • English & Maths grade 3.
  • Functional Skills English & Maths Level 1.
