Advanced Diploma Sports, Fitness and Management

Is the Course for me?

This sport course supports learners that are interested working within, Coaching, Fitness and Instructing.

This course will provide you with the opportunities in knowledge and skills in the sport and fitness sector and to facilitate progression onto higher education, apprentice and/or employment.

What is involved?

The BTEC National Foundation Diploma Level 3 qualifications provide a broad introduction that gives learners transferable knowledge and skills. The qualifications prepare learners for a range of higher education courses and job roles related to a particular sector.

Some delivery units are, Sports Leadership, Practical Sports performance, Coaching for performance, Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being.

Students will also have the opportunity to be part of the West Ham United Football Academy and the Newham Cricket Academy. To find out how you can be part of our sports academies, go to Experience opportunity
As part of the programme you will conduct a two week work placement in a Sport or Fitness environment. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting. Assignments will also be completed in relation to your work placement.

Volunteer Hours
You will have the opportunity to complete 30 hours working with the college sport enrichment team in supporting sport events, weekly sport and exercise enrichment sessions and supporting activities in the fitness suite.

Enrichment Activities
A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are sport activities, workshops, outings and debates. There is also the opportunity to request other enrichment activities that you have an interest in.

i - Learning Sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for independent study. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research to assist learning.

Curriculum Tutorials
Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course. Support tutorials are at flexible times to meet your needs. This could occur during the daytime and evenings.


BTEC National Extended Diploma Level 3 in Sport

Course Requirements

5 GCSEs passes at grades A*-C including English and maths
Successful completion of a Level 2 course to a published standard (for example, with a merit grade) with Functional Skills gained at level 2 in English or, where more appropriate, maths.
