Is the Course for me?

This course will provide you with a level 2 qualification in Early Years. It will provide you the opportunities in gaining knowledge and skills in Early Year’s sector and to facilitate progression onto a Level 3 Early Years course, Apprenticeships, Access to HE and/or employment

What is involved?

This Level 2 course consists of 13 units. All units are internally set, marked and assessed. There are no compulsory work placements to be completed; however it is advisory for all learners to complete at least one day of work placement throughout the duration of the course.

I - Learning Sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for independent study. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research to assist learning.

Support Tutorials
Tutorials are set up on the programme to help and assist you with successfully completing the course this can be one to one and/or small group basis. Tutors are at flexible with times to meet your needs. You can arrange to have tutorials during the daytime and evenings.

The work is internally assessed and there are no exams. The two mandatory units are Context, Principles and Values for Children’s and Young People’s Care and Child Protection and Safeguarding Children.

Various assessment methods are used to ensure learning & teaching has taken place such as peer assessment, case studies, practical demonstration, role play, presentations and written assignments. Flexibility is provided for any learner with SEN; support is available from the SEN team. The maintenance of high standards is our priority, in order to make the lessons interesting and stimulating for all learners.

  • Assistant Youth Worker
  • Assistant Social Care with Children and Youth
  • Assistant Health Professional such as Health Visitor, Doctor and Midwives
  • Assistant Pre-school Workers
  • Assistant in a Children’s Centre
  • Assistant in a Children’s Residential Care Home
  • Assistant in Day Nurseries, Nursery Schools and Nursery classes
  • You can go onto Access to Early Years Level 3 Diploma, Apprenticeship and/or employment.

Course Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs Grade A* - D including English and Maths and/or equivalent
  • Initial Diagnostic Assessment has to be completed before you are enrolled; you need to achieve L1 English, diagnostic 60% or above to be accepted on to the Level 2 course. This is to ensure you are put on the right course at the right level.
