Are you an aspiring Hairdresser or Barber? Do you want to develop skills which enable you to confidently cut, colour and style someone's hair?
Then this is the course for you!
This course is for people who are passionate about becoming the best they can be. It offers a practical, real-world approach to help you achieve your ambitions and reach your potential. This course is designed to develop hairdressing and babering skills and knowledge to a commercially acceptable level.

What is involved?

This course is designed for those who wish to learn the art of hairdressing and Barbering and want discover how to recreate styles seen on the catwalk and on your favourite celebrities. During the course you will learn, practice and perform on paying clients in our exceptional hair salons. All learners will be encouraged to use their own initiative and work more independently, whilst building their confidence and communication skills. You will be working to industry standards.

You'll be taught by our highly skilled team of professional Hairdressing staff in specialist classrooms at east ham campus. Practical assessments take place throughout the year on paying clients. During the course you will produce a portfolio of evidence containing both practical and theory work.

Work Experience 
As part of the programme you will conduct a work placement in a hair salon. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.

Enrichment Activities
A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are lectures by guest speakers from leading stylists and salon managers.
Visits to various industry leaders, trade events or seminars. You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to show case your skills.
You will take part in our end of year event where you will be given the opportunity to use your creative design skills complete a look for the catwalk.

I-Learning Sessions 
This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.

Personal Learning Plan Sessions 
A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plans and support put in place to assist you in achieving your targets

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Barbering
  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing

you may also join one of our other level 2 courses in Beauty Therapy or Hair and Media make up


Course Requirements

5 GCSE's D-G Level 1 qualification.

  • You need to enjoy working with people.
  • Have good communication skills, along with a good level of written and spoken English.
  • You must be willing to purchase a professional kit and a uniform for this course.

You will be invited to the college for an initial assessment to determine your suitability for the course.
