City & Guilds Intermediate Diploma in Hairdressing and Barbering

Is the Course for me?

This course is for people who are passionate about becoming the best they can be, It offers a practical, real-world approach to help you achieve your ambitions and reach your potential. This course is designed to develop hairdressing, barbering skills and knowledge to a commercially acceptable level.

What is involved?

This course is designed for those who wish to learn the art of hairdressing and Barbering and want discover how to recreate styles seen on the catwalk and on your favourite celebrities. During the course you will learn, practice and perform on paying clients in our exceptional hair salons. All learners will be encouraged to use their own initiative and work more independently, whilst building their confidence and communication skills.

You will be working to industry standards. and taught by our highly skilled team of professional Hairdressing staff in specialist classrooms at East Ham campus. Practical assessments take place throughout the year on paying clients. During the course you will produce a portfolio of evidence containing both practical and theory work.

You will be retaking your GCSE Maths and English, if you did not achieve Grade C in any of these subjects, as part of your course to enable you to progress onto Level-3 qualifications.

Work Experience opportunity 
As part of the programme you will conduct a two week work placement in a Business and Enterprise organisation/field of your choice. This will allow you to apply your theoretical knowledge into a practical work setting.

Enrichment Activities 
A range of Enrichment activities are incorporated within the programme. Examples of Enrichment activities conducted are lectures by guest speakers, sharing their knowledge and experience with you.
Visits to various industry leaders. You will have an opportunity to participate in internal and external events where you will be able to showcase your skills
I-Learning Sessions
This is additional time embedded in your programme for your study to promote independent learning. This time is used to work through assignments, complete homework activities and conduct wider reading and research.

Support Tutorials Group and one to one tutorials are set up on the programme to further assist you with successfully completing the course and provide you with professional guidance and support throughout the course.

Personal Learning Plan Sessions
A course tutor will be allocated to you on the programme. Your course tutor will be working with you to set realistic targets that will enable you to achieve your goals. Your targets will be monitored weekly by your tutor and yourself and actions plans and support put in place to assist you in achieving your targets.

  • City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing

you may also progress onto any of our level 2 beauty or hair and media make-up courses.

Course Requirements

  • 5 GCSE's D-G or a Level 1 qualification.
